Description
Executed in ceramic, wood, and papier-mâché, this sculptural work reflects Lauren Naomi’s exploration of organic form and material juxtaposition. Measuring 42 x 42 x 37 inches, the composition occupies space with both architectural presence and botanical delicacy.
A restrained ceramic vessel serves as the grounding element—its smooth, matte surface defined by a cylindrical body and subtle narrowing at the neck. From this stable base, branching wooden elements extend outward in an asymmetrical, gestural arrangement. The branches are punctuated by hand-formed papier-mâché blossoms, whose pale surfaces introduce lightness and tonal contrast against the natural wood. The interplay between rigid ceramic, wood, and delicate paper articulates a dialogue between permanence and fragility.
The work balances sculptural clarity with organic movement. While the vessel maintains structural discipline, the branching composition expands laterally, creating a measured tension between containment and release. Function is suggested but ultimately transcended; the piece operates not as utilitarian object but as a meditation on growth, transience, and material transformation.
Defined by material integrity and thoughtful proportion, this work exemplifies Naomi’s ability to translate botanical reference into a contemporary sculptural language—where craft, scale, and gesture resolve into a cohesive and contemplative form.
