Lucio Costa

Lucio Costa was a Brazilian architect, urban planner and furniture designer who is widely considered as one of the most influential figures in modern Brazilian architecture. He was born on February 27, 1902, in Toulon, France, but spent most of his life in Brazil. He is best known for his role in designing Brasilia, the capital city of Brazil, and for his work on various urban planning projects throughout the country.

Costa also designed several important buildings in Brazil, such as the Museu de Arte Moderna and the Gustavo Capanema Palace, both located in Rio de Janeiro. He was a strong advocate for preserving Brazil's cultural heritage and was instrumental in founding the Brazilian Institute of Architects. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards and honors, including the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1988.

Costa passed away on June 13, 1998, at the age of 96.
