Description

This sculptural side table reflects the organic formal language that defined Brazilian modernism in the mid-20th century. Executed in solid Caviúna (Brazilian hardwood), the table articulates a dialogue between structural clarity and fluid movement—an approach closely associated with the period’s most accomplished ateliers.

The base is defined by four curved legs that rise and taper with controlled tension before resolving into a square apron. A central stretcher, shaped in a continuous, branching gesture, reinforces the structure while introducing a biomorphic rhythm beneath the top. The composition balances mass and openness, allowing light to pass through the negative space created by the sculpted supports. The result is both architectural and expressive, with each curve revealing the depth and tonal variation of the wood’s grain.

Anchoring the composition is a substantial marble top in deep violet-grey tones, distinguished by soft, organic veining and natural variation. The stone sits within a recessed frame, integrating seamlessly with the wooden structure and emphasizing the contrast between mineral surface and living material. Function is absorbed into form: the table operates with quiet utility while maintaining a distinctly sculptural presence.

The wood has been professionally refinished, revealing the richness of the Caviúna and preserving its material integrity. The marble remains in excellent vintage condition, with surface character consistent with age.
