Description
A pair of Brazilian Modern lounge chairs from the 1950s, combining a solid caviúna structure with generously upholstered, sculptural bodies. The designer remains unidentified, but the chairs possess a distinctive presence: broad, inviting seats, softly contoured backs, and sweeping armrests balanced above slender wooden legs.
The design is defined by the continuity of its upholstered silhouette. Low arms curve outward from the backrest before turning downward into a rounded front apron, creating an enveloping shape around each seat cushion. Gently inclined backs narrow toward the top, with softened corners that give the chairs an appealing profile from every angle. Viewed from behind, the tailored upholstery reveals the same careful proportions, making the pair particularly suited to arrangements where the backs remain visible.
New bouclé upholstery introduces a richly textured blend of warm greige, ivory, and muted golden ochre. The interwoven tones create a finely mottled surface, bringing depth to the fabric while emphasizing the chairs’ rounded contours. Neatly finished seams follow the curves, and substantial seat cushions complement the padded armrests and supportive backs. Exceptionally comfortable, the chairs offer a relaxed sitting position within a visually compact form.
The exposed caviúna base provides a warm counterpoint to the upholstery. Tapered legs and a pronounced horizontal front stretcher anchor each chair while leaving an open interval beneath the upholstered body. Honey, amber, and deeper brown tones move through the wood, with contrasting veins and beautifully aged variation giving each frame its own character. A subtle satin finish allows that grain and patina to remain expressive.
With their generous comfort, tactile upholstery, and distinctive wooden bases, these vintage Brazilian lounge chairs bring softness and material warmth to a living room, study, or intimate seating area. Their appeal lies in the balance of sculptural volume and visual lightness—a substantial, welcoming pair with an understated architectural rhythm.
