Designed by Carlo Hauner in the 1950s These armchairs exemplify the lightness and structural clarity that defined Brazilian outdoor design in the mid-20th century. Each chair is constructed on a slender iron frame, rising on four attenuated legs that support a gently reclined backrest and subtly curved seat. The armrests extend in a continuous linear gesture, reinforcing the graphic quality of the silhouette.
Handwoven cane forms both the seat and tall back panel, creating a suspended plane within the metal structure. The tight, rhythmic weave introduces warmth and texture, while the blackened iron frame provides contrast and definition. The interplay between natural fiber and industrial material reflects the period’s interest in material honesty and climatic responsiveness.
Originally conceived for outdoor use, the design balances durability with visual lightness. The slightly inclined back and generous proportions offer relaxed comfort without compromising the disciplined geometry of the frame.
The wicker and steel remain in their original condition, preserving the authentic patina and character of the set. Sculptural yet restrained, these armchairs transition effortlessly between exterior and interior settings, standing as articulate examples of 1950s Brazilian modernism.
