Description
This hand-built ceramic vase reflects the enduring pottery traditions of the Yucatán Peninsula, articulated through a contemporary, sculptural vocabulary. Produced by artisans of Ensamble Artesano for Taller Maya, the work emphasizes material authenticity and measured form.
Executed in natural brown clay, the vessel is defined by a gently tapered silhouette articulated with rhythmic horizontal ridges. These concentric bands create a subtle interplay of light and shadow across the surface, reinforcing the vase’s verticality while preserving its organic character. The unglazed finish maintains the tactile quality of the clay, allowing tonal variations and mineral traces to remain visible, underscoring the integrity of the medium.
The piece stands as both functional vessel and sculptural object, where proportion and repetition replace ornament. As part of Taller Maya’s collaborative initiative supporting regional artisans, the vase embodies a continuity of local craft translated into a restrained, contemporary expression.
