Description

This pair of chairs reflects the Brazilian modernist interest in combining industrial structure with natural fiber. Each chair is constructed with a slender iron frame finished in matte black, forming a precise geometric base with lightly splayed legs and cross-bracing that reinforces both stability and visual rhythm.

Suspended above the metal structure, the seat and backrest are executed in tightly woven wicker, creating a continuous surface that rises in a gentle curve from seat to high back. The woven plane appears almost floating within the iron armature, emphasizing contrast between the organic texture of the fiber and the disciplined linearity of the steel. The proportions are measured and upright, offering a balanced profile defined by clarity rather than ornament.

The black-painted iron introduces a graphic outline to the composition, while the warm tone of the wicker softens the silhouette and adds tactile depth. This interplay of material and structure distills the essence of mid-century Brazilian design—lightness, economy of means, and structural legibility.

Versatile in scale and presence, the pair functions equally well as dining or occasional seating. Together, they form a cohesive ensemble that articulates the dialogue between craft and industry central to the modern movement in Brazil.
