Description

A richly profiled rosewood frame gives this 1960s Brazilian wall mirror an elegant sculptural presence. Its continuous rounded outline is articulated by concentric ridges and recessed channels, creating fine bands of light and shadow around the glass. The substantial outer edge projects from the wall, lending depth to an otherwise restrained silhouette.

Excellent craftsmanship is evident in the carefully fitted frame sections and the continuity of the stepped detailing across their joins. Broad passages of exposed grain balance the finely worked borders, allowing the rosewood’s natural figuring to remain central to the design. Warm reddish-brown tones, darker streaks, and an aged surface give the wood a layered character that rewards close inspection.

Although the designer is unknown, the mirror expresses the enduring appeal of 1960s Brazilian design through its confident geometry, expressive wood, and thoughtful balance of utility and sculpture. Its generous reflective surface brings light into an interior, while the frame provides enough visual substance to anchor a composition above a console or sideboard.

The mirror has been professionally cleaned. The back has intentionally been left as found, preserving its existing character and traces of age.
