Description
A sculptural Brazilian modern coffee table by Liceu de Artes e Ofícios, crafted in rosewood in the 1960s. The richly figured wood has developed a warm, nuanced patina that brings depth to the table’s architectural form.
The two level design pairs a long rectangular top with a curved slatted shelf below, leaving generous space for magazines and coffee table books. A central glass vitrine opens a view through the table to the craftsmanship beneath. Beveled edges sharpen the profile, while sweeping supports and gently flared feet lend the substantial piece a sense of movement.
Founded in São Paulo in 1873, the Liceu de Artes e Ofícios trained generations of artisans and became an important center for skilled furniture making. Its workshop tradition helped give Brazilian modernism its distinctive union of expressive form and meticulous woodcraft.
