Produced by Novo Rumo in São Paulo during the 1960s, this monumental Brazilian Modern sofa combines generous comfort with a commanding architectural presence. Founded by architect and ceramist Francesco Scapinelli—brother of celebrated designer Giuseppe Scapinelli—Novo Rumo contributed a distinctive body of work to Brazil’s mid-century design movement, characterized by expressive woodwork, sculptural proportions, and refined construction.

The enveloping shell has been fully restored, allowing the beautifully aged rosewood to reveal its exceptional tonal variation and richly figured grain. Broad side panels flow into sculpted, splayed feet, while a third central support anchors the sofa’s substantial length. The continuous front rail and expansive paneled back emphasize its horizontal profile, transforming the rosewood structure into an architectural composition that remains visually compelling from every angle.

Loose seat and back cushions provide a relaxed, deeply comfortable sit. Newly upholstered in celadon-green mohair, they feature tailored self-welted edges, softly crowned surfaces, and restrained button tufting across the back cushions.
