Description
Produced by Móveis Linfor in Brazil during the 1960s, this extendable dining table brings together expressive rosewood, measured proportions, and practical versatility. Its elongated oval top features gently rounded ends and a slender, finely defined edge, allowing the richly figured wood to command attention. Warm amber and tobacco tones intertwine with deep, nearly black streaks, giving the decades-old rosewood remarkable visual depth.
The top rests on an architectural trestle base: two upright supports joined by a broad longitudinal stretcher, with transverse feet terminating in short cylindrical ends. This interplay of curves and straight lines lends the table a sculptural clarity, while the open base maintains a sense of lightness beneath the expansive surface.
A central extension accommodates larger gatherings while preserving the oval silhouette. The rounded outline also offers flexibility within an open living and dining space, where the table can sit parallel or perpendicular to a sofa according to the room’s proportions and circulation.
Móveis Linfor belongs to the broader network of manufacturers that shaped Brazilian modern furniture in the 1960s; surviving examples document its use of jacarandá and carefully resolved wood construction. This table expresses that material-led approach through beautiful grain, restrained geometry, and an adaptable design conceived for everyday life.
