Description
Designed by Carlo Hauner (1927–1997) and Martin Eisler (1913–1977) for Forma S/A Móveis e Objetos de Arte in the 1950s, this bar cart exemplifies the structural clarity and material confidence of mid-century Brazilian modernism. Hauner and Eisler’s work at Forma played a central role in defining a design language that merged European modernist principles with Brazilian materials and craftsmanship, a synthesis clearly articulated in this piece.
The cart is defined by a light, rectilinear framework anchored by balanced proportions and modular logic. Three removable serving trays introduce flexibility while maintaining formal coherence, and the original wheels reinforce both mobility and visual rhythm. The interplay of horizontal planes and slender supports lends the design a sense of suspension without compromising stability.
Crafted in jacarandá (Brazilian rosewood), glass, and steel, the cart reflects material integrity through contrast and restraint. The wood has been professionally refinished, highlighting its dense grain and rich tone, while the original glass and wheels remain intact. Originating from a private collection, the piece is presented in excellent vintage condition.
Documented in vintage and contemporary publications, this bar cart stands as a thoughtfully resolved and increasingly rare example of Hauner and Eisler’s collaborative work, suitable for serious collections and refined interiors.
