Description
A striking and elegant pair of Brazilian modern armchairs produced by Liceu de Artes e Ofícios in the 1960s. Celebrated for its role in shaping Brazilian craftsmanship and design education, the Liceu fostered works that seamlessly unite refined form with artisanal excellence—qualities clearly embodied in this exceptional set.
The armchairs are crafted from solid Brazilian hardwood and rest on four sculpturally curved legs that lend the design a sense of lightness and fluidity. The gently contoured hardwood armrests and balanced proportions reflect a sophisticated approach to comfort and structure, while maintaining a clean, modernist silhouette.
Recently refinished, the hardwood reveals beautifully expressive, colorful veining that underscores the quality of the original material and the precision of the restoration. The seats and backs have been newly upholstered in a luxurious, super-soft green velvet, faithfully following the original pattern and preserving the authentic character of the design. The velvet introduces a rich tactile contrast to the warmth of the wood, enhancing both comfort and visual depth.
The pair presents in excellent vintage condition. The wood has been carefully restored, and the upholstery is new, resulting in armchairs that are not only visually compelling but exceptionally comfortable for everyday use.
A refined and increasingly rare example of Brazilian modern furniture, ideal for collectors and interiors that value craftsmanship, materiality, and timeless design.
