Description
Designed by Carlo Hauner and manufactured by Forma Móveis in 1955, the Concha loveseat stands as an emblematic example of Brazilian mid-century modern design. The piece reflects Hauner’s ability to merge sculptural expression with industrial refinement. Its name—Concha, Portuguese for “shell”—directly references the enveloping geometry that defines the design.
The loveseat is articulated through a softly curved seating form that appears to unfold from its structure, creating a sense of visual continuity and enclosure. This sculptural volume is anchored by a finely worked iron base, whose delicate lines provide both structural support and visual contrast.
The metal structure has been carefully preserved, and the seating has been newly reupholstered in a soft brass colored fabric selected to complement the original design intent. Function is fully integrated into the form: the curved profile offers ergonomic support while maintaining an elegant, architectural presence. Presented in excellent vintage condition, the Concha loveseat remains a refined and increasingly scarce work, exemplifying the sophistication and material innovation that define Brazilian modern furniture of the 1950s.
