Description
Designed in the 1950s by Carlo Hauner for Forma, this dresser and stool form part of a rare and cohesive Brazilian Modern bedroom suite conceived as an integrated domestic environment. Rather than isolated furnishings, Hauner approached the bedroom as an architectural composition, aligning furniture, storage, and circulation into a unified modern language. The original room set included a bench, a double bed with headrest, and a wall module, as documented in period imagery, with each element designed to function independently while maintaining formal continuity.
Crafted from Brazilian hardwood with rosewood surfaces, the dresser features a mirror, four drawers, and a cabinet, combining utility with refined proportion. The integrated light has been professionally rewired and is fully functional, preserving the original design intent while meeting contemporary standards. The wood has been carefully refinished to reveal its natural color variation and grain pattern, maintaining material depth without erasing age.
Both the dresser and stool retain Forma manufacture seals on the reverse, confirming provenance and authenticity. Acquired from a modernist residence in Teresópolis, this set exemplifies Hauner’s 1950s vocabulary: slender structure, restrained brass accents, and an architectural approach that positions Brazilian Modernism as both rigorous and livable.
