Description
In 1956, Lucio Costa remarked to Sergio Rodrigues that he had designed the "first modern Brazilian piece infused with a traditional spirit," noting that no other chair produced in Brazil at the time shared this essence. This comment referred to the CD-7 chair, which was later renamed the Lucio Costa chair. Costa's work symbolizes a revival of Brazilian furniture traditions, emphasizing Rodrigues' unique ability to blend elements from ancestral Brazilian homes with contemporary design.
Through this creation, Sergio undertook a significant revision of the traditional rosewood and straw seating styles from the 19th century, reinterpreting them to formulate a new aesthetic. The chair features a solid Brazilian rosewood frame and a seat crafted from natural Indian straw.
