Description
Produced by Cimo in Brazil during the 1950s, this model of rocking chair reflects the manufacturer’s disciplined approach to bentwood construction and mid-century Brazilian modernism. The design is defined by its continuous, sculptural lines: a tall, gently flared backrest flows into a broad seat, while the rockers extend in a confident arc, grounding the composition with both stability and visual rhythm.
Each chair is constructed entirely of bentwood, demonstrating a sophisticated command of steam-bent timber. The armrests terminate in subtle curves, and the structural elements remain visibly honest—celebrating the tensile strength and elasticity of the material. The result is a form that is at once structural and expressive, balancing utility with sculptural clarity.
Remnants of the original manufacturer’s seal remain beneath the seats, reinforcing the chairs’ period authenticity. The surfaces have been professionally refinished, revealing the depth and warmth of the wood grain. Minor, age-appropriate wear is present, most notably along the legs, consistent with careful use over time.
Both chairs are in excellent condition, retaining their original character and structural integrity.
Available individually($8,500), can be bought as a pair($17,000).
