The iconic Guanabara Table, designed in the late 1950s by Jorge Zalszupin (1922–2020) and produced by his firm L’Atelier, is a rare and important example of Brazilian mid-century modern design.
The table features its original, continuous rosewood veneer top, showcasing the rich natural grain and depth of the wood. The surface has been carefully preserved and gently polished, restoring its luster while respecting the integrity of the original veneer and maintaining full authenticity.
It is supported by a single sculptural concrete base, wrapped in original black hand-stitched leather, paired with an internal iron structure that provides both strength and a refined modernist presence. The iron and leather elements have been professionally cleaned and remain in excellent vintage condition, contributing to the piece’s character and historical value.
Highly versatile in scale and function, the Guanabara Table works equally well as a corporate meeting or conference table or as a residential dining table seating 8–10 people, as shown in the photographs. Originally used as a dining table and later repurposed for a conference room, the piece speaks to Zalszupin’s ability to merge elegance, functionality, and architectural presence.
