Description
Handcrafted in Brazil from solid jacarandá (Brazilian rosewood), this platter reflects the mid-century emphasis on organic form and material expression. Its silhouette is defined by a continuous, sculpted contour that moves fluidly between concave and convex planes, creating a composition that is at once restrained and dynamic. The absence of applied ornament allows the object’s geometry and proportion to articulate its presence.
The form is carved from a single block, revealing the density and structural integrity of the wood. Gently rising edges and a subtly divided interior field introduce both visual rhythm and functional clarity. The interplay of curves establishes a natural flow across the surface, while maintaining structural coherence and balance.
Jacarandá’s inherent tonal depth—ranging from warm umber to near-ebony striations—animates the surface with pronounced grain movement. The recent refinishing has been undertaken with restraint, preserving the wood’s natural figure and crisp carved edges while enhancing its luster. The result foregrounds material truth rather than surface embellishment.
Function is seamlessly integrated into the form: the raised perimeter contains contents securely, while the sculpted divisions allow for thoughtful presentation. Whether used or displayed, the platter retains a quiet sculptural authority.
