Description
Designed in 1958 by Sérgio Rodrigues (1927–2014) and produced by Oca, the iconic Mucki bench is a landmark of Brazilian modernism. Spanning nearly ten feet in length, its generous scale makes it a striking and versatile piece, equally suited for indoor or covered outdoor settings.
The bench is defined by a low, rectilinear structure with latitudinally arranged rosewood slats, punctuated by small, hand-finished wooden buttons—details that subtly soften its architectural rigor. Crafted in solid Brazilian rosewood, the piece highlights the rich tonal variation and expressive grain of the wood.
A planter has been styled and repositioned in select images solely to illustrate the scale and proportions of the bench and is not included in the sale.
Often regarded as the father of modern Brazilian furniture design, Rodrigues sought to create furniture that reflected Brazil’s cultural identity through noble materials, comfort, and honest construction. The Mucki bench exemplifies this philosophy, balancing sculptural clarity with warmth and craftsmanship.
