Description

Distinguished by their tall silhouettes and finely woven cane, this set of eight Brazilian modern dining chairs by Celina Decorações brings an elegant architectural rhythm to the dining room. Produced circa the 1960s, the chairs balance the richness of cerejeira hardwood with the transparency of caning, creating a striking presence without visual heaviness.

Standing 42.1 inches tall, each chair features an elongated backrest framed by slender wooden uprights. The extended proportions give the design its distinctive character: poised, narrow, and expressive from both front and rear. Gently arched crest rails soften the strong vertical lines, while straight legs and low connecting stretchers establish a restrained, orderly base. The shaped seat frames introduce a subtle contour, completing a composition in which each detail serves the overall proportion.

The cerejeira displays warm honey and reddish-brown tones, enriched by darker grain that moves across the rails and uprights. Professionally restored and refinished, the wood retains its individual figuring beneath a soft luster. Its depth of color provides a beautiful contrast to the pale natural cane, allowing the structure and woven surfaces to remain equally legible.

Both seats and backrests have been newly caned by our master caning specialist in Rio de Janeiro, using traditional methods that respect the original design. The precise open weave introduces a delicate pattern of light and shadow across the tall backs, while the caned seats offer a lightly yielding, breathable surface. This material continuity gives the chairs a cohesive appearance from every angle and emphasizes the craftsmanship within their spare wooden frames.

Measuring 18.1 inches wide and 22 inches deep, with a seat height of approximately 17.3 inches, the chairs combine substantial height with a relatively compact footprint. Arranged as a complete set of eight, their repeating vertical lines create a particularly compelling composition around a dining table. Beautifully restored, they bring warmth, texture, and a distinctive sense of proportion to both modern and layered interiors.
