Description

A sculptural set of five dining chairs designed by Giuseppe Scapinelli in the 1950s. Each chair is crafted in solid caviúna wood, a Brazilian hardwood frequently used by the designer for its rich tone and expressive grain.

The design is characterized by a carved, gently sculpted backrest and softly curved legs, giving the chairs a fluid silhouette while maintaining structural clarity. The seats retain their original fabric upholstery, preserving the period character of the set.

The wooden frames have been carefully refinished, highlighting the depth and natural variation of the caviúna while maintaining the integrity of the original construction.

Originally from a private residence in Rio de Janeiro, the former capital of Brazil, the set reflects the refined craftsmanship and sculptural language that define Scapinelli’s work in mid-century Brazilian design.
