Description

This Brazilian mid-century modern four-seat sofa by JD Móveis pairs a richly figured rosewood frame with newly upholstered warm taupe velvet. Its long, low silhouette balances broad planes of wood with softly rounded upholstery, creating a substantial yet inviting presence. Two generous seat cushions and two button-tufted back cushions give the composition a clear, measured rhythm while preserving the sofa’s uninterrupted horizontal lines.

The rosewood frame is especially compelling from the rear, where a broad expanse of bookmatched veneer displays dramatic, mirrored grain patterns. Dark, undulating lines move through reddish-brown and amber tones, bringing depth to the otherwise restrained geometry. The wood continues around the sides, whose upper edges descend from the back toward the arms in a gentle sculptural curve. A satin finish reveals the richness of the figuring, making the sofa particularly suited to an open room where its back remains visible.

The armrests introduce a softer, more expressive gesture. Generously padded, they sweep outward above the rosewood side panels, with rounded tops that curl over the front edges of the frame. Their enveloping contours soften the upright wooden supports and form a comfortable transition between the seat and sides. Carefully placed seams follow these curves, defining the upholstery without interrupting its fullness.

Across the two back cushions, fabric-covered buttons are arranged in two orderly horizontal rows. Shallow pulls create soft depressions and subtle folds, lending dimension to the velvet while maintaining a relaxed, tailored surface. Rounded cushion corners echo the armrests, while the broad, untufted seat cushions provide a calmer visual counterpoint with gently crowned tops and neatly defined edges.

The new velvet introduces a luminous neutral tone best described as warm taupe, with champagne-beige highlights. Its fine surface texture and light-catching pile produce a soft glow that shifts with the viewing angle, moving between pale sandy highlights and deeper taupe shadows. This tonal variation complements the warmth of the rosewood and adds richness to the upholstery without overwhelming the frame.

Short, rounded wooden legs taper toward softly pointed feet, lifting the body just above the floor. Their compact, sculptural profile completes a design whose character rests in the relationship between expressive grain, precise proportions, and generous upholstered forms—a distinctive Brazilian modern sofa with equal presence from the front, side, and rear.
