Description

This exceptional extendable dining table, designed by Giuseppe Scapinelli in the 1950s for a private Brazilian residence, embodies the architectonic refinement and sculptural restraint that define the designer’s most celebrated works. Executed in richly figured caviúna wood, the table reveals Scapinelli’s distinct ability to merge structural clarity with material sensuality—creating forms that feel both disciplined and deeply expressive.

The elongated top is softened by subtly radiused corners and gently tapered edges, lending visual lightness to its generous proportions. Its extension system is seamlessly integrated into the composition, allowing the table to expand fluidly while preserving the purity of its silhouette. Four elegantly tapering legs provide rhythm and vertical emphasis, anchoring the piece with remarkable balance and poise.

The caviúna has been meticulously refinished in a satin-matte finish that enhances the wood’s deep tonal variation, honeyed undertones, and dramatic natural grain movement characteristic of this prized Brazilian hardwood. Under changing light, the surface reveals exceptional depth and warmth, reinforcing the table’s sculptural presence without excess ornamentation.

Both refined and commanding, the piece functions as a true architectural centerpiece—equally suited to intimate residential interiors and larger contemporary spaces. A highly resolved and increasingly rare example of mid-century Brazilian modernism by one of the movement’s most sophisticated designers.

The table includes two extension leaves, allowing configurations suitable for 4, 6, or 8 people comfortably.
