Description
Made in Brazil in the 1960s, this Tropic-Art ice bucket brings a distinctly modern sensibility to an everyday bar accessory. Its clean cylindrical form is enlivened by taqueado construction: sections of imbuia and pau marfim are joined in a patchwork of horizontal bands, allowing their contrasting tones and grain patterns to shape the design.
Tropic-Art produced functional wooden objects during the 1960s and 1970s, using Brazilian hardwoods to give utilitarian pieces warmth and visual character. The fitted wooden lid has three circular openings, while a removable liner sits inside the bucket. The Tropic-Art maker’s mark appears on the underside. The wood has been refinished, retaining the depth and tonal variation that come with age. Both useful and sculptural, it makes a distinctive addition to a bar or drinks setting.
