This side table with integrated bench and storage reflects the adaptable, multifunctional approach typical of mid-century Brazilian design. Originally produced as a telephone table, it demonstrates how domestic furniture of the period was conceived to respond flexibly to everyday use and evolving interiors.
Constructed in solid Brazilian rosewood (jacarandá) with rosewood veneer, the piece is defined by a low, elongated profile supported by four tapered legs. A raised open storage element is positioned asymmetrically atop the surface, introducing visual depth while maintaining structural clarity and balance. The wood has been expertly refinished, revealing pronounced grain movement and rich tonal variation.
While its original function has shifted, the table adapts naturally to contemporary use as a footstool, side table, or low storage piece. Preserved in excellent vintage condition, it stands as a concise example of Brazilian modernism’s emphasis on material integrity, versatility, and disciplined form.
