Description:

This pair of Brazilian modern armchairs by Carlo Hauner balances an architectural metal framework with sculpted wooden elements and luminous rust-colored cushions. The design’s character emerges through proportion and contrast: slender supports, broad horizontal backrests, and open space give each chair a substantial presence with remarkable visual lightness.

Two gently curved wooden slats form each backrest, separated by a deliberate horizontal opening. Their rounded ends echo the softened edges of the wooden armrests, while the ebonized finish retains visible grain beneath its dark surface. The craftsmanship is particularly evident in these transitions—the shaping of the back, the carefully finished edges, and the relationship between the wood and its narrow metal supports.

The metal frames have been repainted black with a satin matte finish, emphasizing their bent profiles and splayed legs. Custom-made circular brass sabots introduce warm, rounded accents at floor level, completing the silhouette with a distinct contemporary finishing detail.

Newly upholstered loose seat cushions bring softness and color to the graphic structure. Their rust velvet has a lively, shimmering pile, shifting between deeper terracotta and copper highlights as the light changes. Neatly finished edges follow the rounded seat contours, preserving the clarity of the frame.

Sculptural yet comfortable, the chairs combine supportive curved backrests, generous armrests, and cushioned seats—an expressive pairing of structural economy and tactile warmth within Brazilian mid-century modern design.
