This comfortable, aptly named Senior armchair was designed by Jorge Zalszupin and produced by his own company, L’Atelier, in Brazil in 1959. The Senior chair is a minimalist design that was manufactured continuously from 1959 to 1969. It features solid rosewood round feet, a gracefully curved backrest, and a tufted seat upholstered in fabric. The exposed joinery and hardware beautifully accentuate the dark rosewood frame. The minimalist and light appearance of the chair contrasts with the more elegantly designed seat above. Originally intended for both home and formal settings, the Senior chair was also available in a variation with two metal T-shaped legs on either side in addition to the standard four-legged wooden model.
The set is in excellent condition: The structure has been reinforced and the suede upholstery is new. The last few images feature the same model in contemporary as well as vintage publications.
