Description

This super fun looking bed is made in Imbuia hardwood and features a rectangular structure with curved ends. The heads on each side have a pentagonal shape with different sizes (large and small) giving a look of a cradle for adults.

This piece encapsulates the Brazilian Modernist aesthetic of the fifties: straight lines, curved ends, exuberant use of wood and funky use of vinyl, a new material that became mainstream in Brazil around that time. This type of model, with the yellow vinyl circular applications were purposely made as furniture for children's rooms. Lot 583 is the chest and 470 armoire version.

The quality of the wood is excellent and the joinery is also fantastic. Finding a piece like this in good condition is quite difficult. This may be because in the fifties, high quality furniture was still artisanal and production badges were much smaller than in the sixties and onwards, when the country’s industrialization started.
