Description

This armoire is entirely made in Imbuia hardwood and features a rectangular structure with curved ends, two doors with  yellow circles that act as handles and four delicate legs. This piece encapsulates the Brazilian Modernist aesthetic of the fifties: straight lines, curved ends, exuberant use of wood and funky use of Formica, a new material that became mainstream in Brazil around that time. The quality of the wood is excellent and the joinery is also fantastic. Finding a piece like this in good condition is quite difficult. This may be because in the fifties, high quality furniture was still artisanal and production badges were much smaller than in the sixties and onwards, when the country’s industrialization started.
