Paulo. The Wood Master
Paulo, our wood master, comes from a long legacy of wood joiners in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His grandfather was a wood joiner, his dad and five out of his seven siblings wood joiners also. Wood is what Paulo has seen all his life but for him wood joinery was just a part of his call.
When I met Paulo, the first thing I saw was an artist surrounded by canvases, brushes, and paints. When you listen to him, you see Dr. Emmet Brown, the mad inventor from the 1985’s hit “Back to the Future”, inventing new products and tools to make his craft excellent. And when he’s restoring, you see a kid that gets amazed every time he is done restoring a piece. The man has done this job for thirty years and he has the same expression each time he finishes restoring a piece.
That’s why wood joinery wasn’t (only) his call, but just one important part. Paulo has an unusual combination of skills: Technical to develop tools and fix damage, creative to see furniture as art and passion for what he does. And that's what makes him one of a kind.
