Named after Rio de Janeiro’s renowned stadium, inaugurated in 1950, the design brings a distinctive architectural presence to an intimate scale.

This rare version pairs a solid caviúna structure with a marble top and brass-finished feet. The materials establish a refined interplay of warmth, weight, and light: richly figured wood anchors the composition, marble introduces a contrasting mineral surface, and brass provides a discreet finishing detail. Expressive yet purposeful, the design reflects Scapinelli’s ability to give everyday furniture a strong sculptural identity.

The caviúna has aged beautifully, developing a depth of color and character that gives this example particular appeal. Carefully refinished, the wood retains its natural tonal variation and the visual richness of its mature patina. Its grain remains central to the piece’s presence, bringing warmth and individuality to an iconic form.

The “Maracanã” model is illustrated in the Giuseppe Scapinelli book and catalogue shown in the accompanying reference photograph. Dating to the 1950s, this example offers a compelling expression of his work through the enduring combination of Brazilian hardwood, marble, and brass.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0712/9645/0847/files/1_9999d836-b2f1-44f1-86fa-8733e64c3e22.jpg?v=1792018115
https://foundcollectibles.com/products/maracana-coffee-table-in-caviuna-marble-giuseppe-scapinelli-1950s-705a-copy
